This kind of goal isn’t going to work because it leaves a lot of questions hanging. Yes, you might want to sell your services, but wow will you do that? Where will the sale happen? In your email marketing list? Or in a meeting? With that kind of goal, you leave a lot of important questions unanswered.
Think of a simple and straightforward first step your potential clients could take on their way to eventually purchasing what you’re selling. This first smallest step towards your main goal can be turning a website visitor into an email subscriber, booking a consultation call, or subscribing to your YouTube channel.
Keep in mind that your entire website design should be built with your main goals in mind!
2. Explain clearly what you do, who you are, and how to book your services or buy from you
The second visitors land on your homepage your website should have the answer to the following:
Who you are? | Where you are located? | What you offer? | Who you serve? | What makes you different? | How to book your services?
Yes, this may seem like (and it is!) a lot of information to fit into the short few seconds most website visitors give you before making their impression of your business. Although, you shouldn’t wait until visitors click on your about page to let them know all about you. By then you have lost a bunch of potential paying clients!
To achieve this, you should have a clear tagline by taking parts of what you do, who you serve, where you’re located, how you’re different, and most important a call-to-action (CTA), and place it on the first section of your homepage.
3. Include clear Calls-to-action (CTAs)
CTAs or calls-to-action is one of the most important elements of your website! Strong and clear CTAs make obvious what you want visitors to do next on your website.
The perfect CTA is a request that is comprehended by your visitors even if they barely browsed through your website and have zero context for what you’re talking about beyond what it says on your CTA.
For example, if your goal is to get your visitor to book a service you offer, say simply just that (it’s important not to overthink this)! You should have at least one CTA on every page of your website, in your sidebar, footer, and blog posts.
One thing to remember is the action on your CTA should always relate to your main website goals!
4. Minimize clutter on your website
No one likes messy and confusing things in our lives, and the same applies to your website. Confusion reduces your chances to land a client!
Your website should be built in a way that there’s no question in your visitor’s minds where they need to go next.
Everything that can be considered a potential distraction from your main goal should be immediately removed from your website. Take a minute to look over your website with this in mind and see just how many things you have going on that could potentially serve as a distraction from those main goals.
5. Calculate and Track the metrics of your conversion
Once you have your website goals in mind, it’s time to crunch some numbers to see how well your website is converting.
To calculate your conversion rate, take the number of people who took the action, and divide it by the total number of people who had the opportunity to take that action.
Example: You want to calculate the conversion rate for the CTA you created to sign up for your email list. To reach a number you would look at how many sign-ups you got versus the number of people who visited your website. If 50 people visited your website and out of 50 total visitors 5 signed up for your email list, your conversion rate is 10%.
To keep track of how well your website is converting, we advise you to create a file and update it weekly. If you have this information tracked, you’ll be able to decide what’s working and what’s not, and where to focus your efforts in the future.
