How to Create a High-Converting Landing Page For Your Free Offer

High-Converting Landing Page For Your Free Offer!

Last week, we’re working on the landing page of one of our web design clients and we were discussing the best way to design it to set up our client for success.

After debating for quite a while, we decided to make a list of all the requirements needed to design a high-converting landing page.

Well, that situation was what sparked the idea for this post, and we just knew we needed to share our findings with you! But what exactly take to create a high-converting landing page to promote your free offer? Let’s find out…

How to Create a High-Converting Landing Page For Your Free Offer

You’ve just finished creating your first (or next) free offer? Congrats, this is a big step for your business! And now it’s time to set up a high-converting landing page.

But why exactly are we making such a fuss with a simple landing page? Well, the reason you need to create a high-converting landing page is that the internet is full of free offers (that people are constantly turning down!), or simply scrolling by without giving it a second look.

Please are busy, and the last thing they want to do is to sign up for spammy and content without value. There are a lot of empty promises online, and that’s exactly the opposite people are looking for. People just want something they can trust and content that provides value to their business.

But with all the BS online how do you convince your visitors that they need what you’re offering? Simple… with a well-designed and ready-to-convert landing page!

One thing you really need to understand is that the landing page for your free offer is the entryway to every paid offer you might have on your website. So, for this particular reason and others, we think it’s worth putting a little effort into building it. Because it doesn’t matter how great your freebie is if nobody actually signs up for it.

A high-converting landing page is not like any other page on your website. When your visitors land on that page they aren’t there by accident, they didn’t stumble upon it or sent there in an organic search like your blog for example. People land there because they saw your call-to-action (CTA) in an ad, blog post, or social media post, they’re really interested and they want to know more.

So guess what? No, this is not the time to share your life’s story or to promote your paid products or services. The one and only focus of this page is your free offer!

5 Steps to create a high-converting landing page for your freebie

STEP 1: DIRECT YOUR VISITOR’S ATTENTION TO THE IMPORTANT THINGS

Directing your visitor’s attention towards the important action means taking all the distractions of your visitor's sight. When we say taking ALL the distractions we mean everything! This includes hiding your header, footer, main navigation menu, and anything else that could potentially distract them from pressing submit on your opt-in form.

While your visitors are on your landing page it’s very tempting to “ask” them to take other actions as well, but you don’t want to prioritize that over actual email sign-ups. Your main goal with this page is getting your visitors to subscribe to your email list by offering a resource filled with value!

STEP 2: LET VISITORS KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND WHY THEY SHOULD CHOOSE YOU OVER ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE

As mentioned before your landing page is not the place to tell your life’s story but it’s highly recommended to share a short and sweet introduction of yourself. Even though people are not ready yet to read your full story, they still need to know who you are, and with whom they are engaging.

Since this will probably be your first introduction to a potential client, you need to align your message with your brand’s voice.

Another really important thing you should mention while your visitors are on your landing page is to convince them why they should choose you and your offer over anyone else out there. You can do this by bragging about your achievements and including testimonials of your past clients. Showing social proof will also help you to build some brand recognition with your potential clients.

STEP 3: SHOW THEM THE FEATURES AND THE BENEFITS Of Your Free Offer

One of the main goals of this landing page is to convince your visitor to opt-in for your free offer and in exchange, they need to give you their contact information.

People don’t give away emails that easily these days, so you need to prove to them that your offer is filled with value and that what you’re offering will actually help them.

To grab your visitor’s attention show them social proof you might have, and the features, benefits, and pain point(s) your freebie solves.

Here are some important questions your landing page should answer:

  1. What problem does this free offer solve?

  2. Who is this free offer meant for?

  3. Why should they choose you over someone else?

  4. How did your free offer help others?

STEP 4: USE APPEALING DESIGN TO VISUALLY STIMULATE INTEREST

You may have noticed already that design is a big part of our business, and we know that a well-designed page helps you to look super professional.

So, while designing your landing page, you need to make sure that everything you include there doesn’t distract your potential email subscriber.

Some design tips you might take into consideration when designing your landing page: make use of contrasting colors, white space, well-defined sections, and lots of CTAs to catch your visitor’s attention while they are scrolling down the page.

We love simplicity, and one of the techniques we use while designing is to keep things simple. Why? Because you don’t want a potential subscriber to scroll through your page and miss the CTA.

STEP 5: MAKE IT SIMPLE AND EASY TO OPT-IN

So what exactly is the best way to lead people to opt-in for what you’re offering? Easy, it’s to include calls-to-action (CTA’s) everywhere!

When we say everywhere we really mean everywhere. For example, if you don’t have a place to click to opt-in on every single section of your landing page, you are losing potential clients!

The most important CTA should be the first thing your visitors see when the page loads, even before they start scrolling through the landing page. Then repeat it again and again, on every section of that landing page.

The goal is to not sound repetitive, and you can easily accomplish this by creating your CTAs a little differently every time. While the CTAs are different the final action remains the same (opt-in for your free offer).

A way to make things simple for your visitor is to have a short and simple sign-up form. In this form, you should only ask for vital information like their first name and email address. The more information you ask, the more likely it is for your potential subscribe to abandon the action you want them to take, and leave your website.
