3 Easy Ways to Add a Membership Area to your Squarespace Website

3 Ways To Create a Membership Website In Squarespace!

You’re probably here because you’re thinking about creating a membership Squarespace website or adding a members area to your Squarespace website. So far there are three ways to do it, all of them very different from each other. If you’re a Squarespace fan (like us!), we have good news! Squarespace rolled out their own membership feature - Squarespace Members Area.

Keep reading as we’ll be comparing all the options out there and give you the best advice on which one you should choose based on your business needs.

3 Easy Ways to Add a Membership Area to your Squarespace Website

1. SQUARESPACE FREE OPTION

This is without a question a very limited option to create a trustworthy and robust membership area. But it’s a free option so you’ll get exactly what you pay for!

You can definitely make use of this free option if you’re not actually selling a paid membership and security is not your biggest concern. With this option, you simply password protect a page within your Squarespace website and then share the password with anyone who needs access (lots of manual work involved here!).

Maybe not the best option for a paid membership area but it’s a great solution for your email list members to download freebies or the place where you share private resources (tutorials, documentation, etc.) with your clients.

To enable this option you need to:

  1. Select “Pages” on the main menu

  2. Click the gear icon on the page you want to password protect

  3. Add a password in Page Settings > General

2. SQUARESPACE MEMBER AREAS

Now, this is where Squarespace step up their game! In 2020, Squarespace launched Member Areas (an exclusive set of page(s) that are only accessible through membership). This is without a question the best option if you want to keep everything in the same place and don’t want to worry about a third party providing this service for you.

Squarespace Member Areas is an add-on, that you need to subscribe to have access to if you want to sell memberships to your Member Areas (you can learn more about the available pricing plans HERE).

The Member Areas can be created directly in the Pages section and can be tested out for free until you’re ready to sell your membership.

3. THIRD-PARTY APPLICATIONS

Both Memberstack and MemberSpace are great options to launch a membership area on your Squarespace website.

Quick comparison:

  • They both work great with Squarespace.

  • Memberstack offers a trial period where you can experiment for free until you’re ready to launch your membership. And MemberSpace only offers a free 14-day trial period.

  • Memberstack offers a slightly lower transaction fee than MemberSpace.
